Welcome to Mwitongo Lodge
Mwitongo Lodge is a family-run boutique hotel nestled in the hills of Butiama, in Tanzania’s Mara Region. We sit just 60 km from the Ndabaka Gate of the Serengeti National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and 80 km from the Kenyan border at Sirari.
We opened in July 2017 with one mission: to give every guest a genuine, unhurried experience of Tanzania. Our 14 rooms are surrounded by manicured gardens, an outdoor swimming pool, and a bar built around a natural rock formation.
We speak Kiswahili, English, Italian, French, and a little Spanish — so whoever you are, you are welcome here.

Butiama is not just another stop on the map. It is the birthplace and resting place of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere — the Father of Tanzania. It is also one of the least crowded entry points to the wider Serengeti ecosystem, giving you an authentic African safari at a fraction of the cost of the main parks.
